Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies

Did you ever brag that about your mother’s cookies? Children have fond memories of coming home after school, especially in the winter, to warm cookies and a glass of milk. You can re-make that memory for your kids or for yourself.

Enjoy this irresistible recipe which is full of rich ingredients to make every bite supremely tasty; with easy variations to suit everyone’s pleasure.


Large bowl
Cookie sheets
Wire rack


3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown or dark brown sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 egg
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 package (12 ounces) semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
3/4 cup coarsely chopped walnuts


  • Heat oven to 375°F/190°C.
  • In a large bowl mix sugars, butter or margarine, vanilla and egg until well blended.
  • Stir in flour, baking soda and salt.
  • Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
  • Place one full tablespoon dough 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake 8-10 minutes or until light brown. Cookie centers will be soft.
  • Cool slightly then remove from cookie sheet.
  • Cool completely on wire rack.


About 4 dozen.


Try other combinations instead of the 12-ounce package of semi-sweet chocolate chips.Use any 4 of these:

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter chips
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
