CARBONDALE — The Women’s Center is preparing for its annual “Taste of Chocolate” fundraiser, Save the Date: February 7, 2014
Guests will have available chocolate-laced foods donated by local restaurants and food vendors while bidding on a wide array of live and silent auction items. As part of the Center’s 40th anniversary, the theme for this year’s event is “40 Years of Safe Shelter.”
“The Women’s Center is one of the first women’s shelters in the country, opening in November 1972. We marked our anniversary by thanking our founders, and wish to continue the commemoration at our annual fundraiser with the theme of ‘40 Years of Safe Shelter,’” said Cathy McClanahan, Executive Director. “Funds raised at this event help The Women’s Center continue its efforts to change the lives of those who are in violent or abusive situations.”
“Auction items are beginning to arrive at the Center, and include jewelry for every price range, an Adirondack chair, a football autographed by Isaiah Pead of the St. Louis Rams, Waterford and Noritake crystal, sports memorabilia, a Swarovski crystal handbag from Little Earth Products, a year of pizza from
Walt’s in Marion, and a beautiful quilt by Amy Noos. We’re always excited to have block sets from Jon Davey’s architecture class, along with a scholarship to his Kid Architecture Camp,” said Sandra Ursini, Women’s Center Development Specialist.
Auction items are accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Center’s Administrative Offices, or those interested may contact Ursini to arrange for pick up of an auction item.
“Many of our favorite food vendors are also returning this year, assuring us of yet another delicious event,” said Ursini. “But we are also adding some new items that might surprise our guests.” Chocolate sweets and savories will be presented by Fat Patties, Thai Taste, Larry’s House of Cakes, One Hot Cookie, and Cristaudo’s. Key Impact will offer chocolate desserts. Major sponsorships at $1000 are still available, as are table sponsors at $400.
Tickets are $35 per person and are available by calling Diane Hood at 618-303-5974 or Sandra Ursini at The Women’s Center. The event is for adults 18 and up.
